The Friends of the Oakville Public Library (FOL) is a group of volunteers dedicated to enhancing library programs and services for the community. Through bi-annual book sales and other fundraising activities, FOL contributes to the development of library services for children, teens and adults wherever the need is greatest.
The Friends of the Oakville Public Library hold two book sales every year; one in spring (April) and one in fall (November). Thousands of donated titles spanning all genres are offered for purchase, most at the modest price of $1.50/lb. These sales have generated hundreds of thousands of dollars that have been used to enhance programs and services like TD Summer Reading Club, teen writing contests and technology-help workshops. FOL have contributed to the installation of ‘Friendly Finds’ shelves at all six library branches. Functioning on the honour system, ongoing sales of $1 (or less) books on these shelves raise thousands of dollars annually, all of which are used to enhance library offerings for the community.
