The Oakville Public Library maintains and renews its facilities to support their role as vital, welcoming and supportive community hubs, places to meet, learn, create and discover.

OPL enhances its spaces to meet the growing and changing needs of Oakville’s residents.

Public library facility trends

Recent public library facility trends are consistent wherever significant renovations take place or new facility construction is undertaken.  These trends have been incorporated into recent OPL enhancements and renovations.  These trends include:

  • More public space
  • More group and quiet study spaces; and more multi-purpose spaces being designed for customers to access Library resources (print and electronic) or work on their own.
  • Increased focus on customer self-service enabled through technology.
  • Installation of RFID (radio frequency identification) sorter systems to provide more convenient and efficient handling of returned material.
  • New customer service models are moving staff away from traditional service desks to service based on staff roving throughout the branch to assist customers.
  • New branch hours of operation.
