Introducing our new library card for kids!

A new design just for kids

On February 17, we officially released a new card design which features a playful image of a child and dinosaur reading together, set against the library’s brand colours. The new card look, while designed with young readers in mind, is available to anyone who is eligible for a library card (that means adults too!) and offers customers another level of service personalization.

For many kids, signing up for their first library card can be a special moment. A library card welcomes budding readers to the library and opens up their access to books, movies and music, which in turn encourages literacy, lifelong learning and teaches both responsibility and accountability. The new design aims to offer something special that will resonate with our youngest cardholders.

Customers may replace their existing library card with the new design by visiting any of our branches, or they can select the new card when first signing up for a library card. Children are also empowered to select whichever design they prefer.

Fine Free for Kids
Did you know that OPL does not charge overdue fines on children’s print books, magazines and storytelling kits? Fines are barriers to library access and OPL is committed to reducing barriers and supporting equitable access to literacy in our community. Last year, OPL introduced a new initiative that removed overdue fines from accruing on qualifying children’s print materials including children’s books and magazines, Storytelling Kits and Enviro-Packs. This initiative applies to all cardholders, meaning that parents, caregivers and educators can benefit too!
