News Release: Oakville Public Library to consider employee vaccination policy

OAKVILLE, ON - Today, The Town of Oakville announced they will be presenting a COVID-19 vaccination policy for all town employees and Members of Council. If passed, OPL will implement a vaccination policy aligned with the Town’s mandate.

The Town of Oakville staff will present a report outlining the policy and recommendations for Council approval at a Special Council meeting on September 13. If passed, OPL will proceed and present its vaccination policy and plan for approval to the Library Board on September 23.

Development of a policy aligns with the recent recommendation from Halton Region’s Medical Officer Health, Dr. Meghani, that all local employers address the need for a workplace vaccination policy to protect their workers and the public from COVID-19.

Throughout the pandemic, OPL’s highest priority has been to ensure the safety of staff and the Oakville’s community members who rely on library services. OPL continues to follow all public health and safety protocols. As an employer, OPL has an obligation under Ontario law to take all necessary precautions to protect its workers.

OPL will comply with its obligation under the Ontario Human Rights Code and privacy legislation.
