Empowering teens to lead, create, and inspire at Oakville Public Library

Youth Library Leaders (YLL) is a volunteer program for Oakville teens aged 14–18 who are currently enrolled in secondary school. This 8-month program empowers youth to influence library services, plan events, and gain leadership experience — all while earning volunteer hours! 

Program Snapshot: 

Commitment: Monthly 2-hour meetings from September – May 
Volunteer Hours: Minimum 16 hours (extra hours may be earned for project participation, minute taking etc.) 
Location: Various OPL branches 
Spots Available: 30  
Applications open once a year in August.

  • Learn about the library and marketing: Gain knowledge about OPL’s services, collections, and programs, and learn marketing basics to help promote these to your peers and community. 
  • Plan exciting events: Help organize a special event during Youth Week - from brainstorming to execution. 
  • ​Explore future careers: Hear from OPL staff on topics like resume writing, job searching, skill development and career paths.
