Donate Books to Friends of Oakville Public Library
Friends of Oakville Public Library raise funds for the library, with most of those funds coming from book sales. If you would like to donate books or audiovisual materials to the Friends, please see the below for details.
Material donations are only accepted at Central Branch during operating hours. Drop donations off at the blue cart within the Water Street (lower) entrance.
If you have a large quantity of materials for donation, please contact us at fol@oakville.ca to arrange a drop-off appointment.
We Can Accept:
Book donations must be in very good condition to help us sell effectively. We especially appreciate hardcover popular fiction and nonfiction books, as well as mass-market paperbacks, since these tend to be the most popular. Please note that donated books and materials are not added to the library collection but are used exclusively for book sales. OPL does not provide tax receipts for these donations. We accept in very good condition:
-
Fiction Books (including teen and children’s)
-
Non-Fiction books (including teen and children’s)
-
Audiovisual materials (including music, audiobooks, and movies on DVD or Blu-Ray)
We Do Not Accept:
-
Books that are outdated and content is no longer relevant (typically more than five years old)
-
Books that are torn or not intact, are discolored, moldy and/or have odor
-
Books with excessive writing, markings, or highlighting
-
Encyclopedias
-
Magazines (including National Geographic)
-
Audio cassettes
-
VHS tapes
