About
Friends of Oakville Public Library (also known as the Friends) is a dedicated volunteer group. Through book sales and community initiatives, the Friends help fund and enhance various Oakville Public Library programs, services and spaces.
Book Sales
Book sales are held within the Central Branch Auditorium, four times per year. In addition to these events, the Friends also organize pop-up book sales at community events. For details including book sale dates and pricing, please visit our Book Sales page.
Friendly Finds
Friendly Finds are gently used books, audio books and materials, that are available for sale at all OPL branches. They are handpicked by OPL staff and the Friends from donations and previously circulated collections. Proceeds support enhancing library programs and services within the community.
Books and materials are stocked weekly and are available on a first-come first-served basis. Visit the Friendly Finds station at an OPL branch near you today.
Donate Books and Materials
Friends of Oakville Public Library raises funds for the library, with a large majority of those funds coming from Book Sales. If you would like to donate books or audiovisual materials to Friends, please visit our Donate Books and Materials page.
Join Friends of Oakville Public Library
The Friends volunteers actively support the OPL's mission by organizing book sales, and other fundraising activities. These efforts contribute significantly to the enrichment of library programs and services, while also fostering strong partnerships with our local community organizations.
Seats on the Friends committee are currently full. We are no longer accepting applications. If you wish to be considered for future openings, please send your resume and cover letter to fol@oakville.ca Be sure to include “Future Friends of OPL Committee Application” in the subject line.
Volunteer for a Book Sale
Interested in volunteering? Volunteer opportunities for adults (age 18 and above) and teens (age 14 and above) are posted prior to each Book Sale. Responsibilities include event setup and teardown, and the check-out desk. Create a volunteer profile:
