FAQs

This is the third item's accordion body. It is hidden by default, until the collapse plugin adds the appropriate classes that we use to style each element. These classes control the overall appearance, as well as the showing and hiding via CSS transitions. You can modify any of this with custom CSS or overriding our default variables. It's also worth noting that just about any HTML can go within the .accordion-body, though the transition does limit overflow.
Frequently Asked Questions

Why are you moving the branch to a new location instead of renovating the existing building?

We understand that the current Central Branch location holds a special place in the hearts of so many Oakville residents. It has served its community amazingly well since 1967, but the aging infrastructure has presented considerable challenges, particularly regarding accessibility.

Namely, we have ongoing HVAC and flooding issues, sewer back-up issues, and the elevator is frequently out of service. Renovating the existing facility would have required a lengthy closure of at least two-three years, which would disrupt vital library services.

The New Central Branch, just a five-minute walk away, brings promise of delivering a modern, accessible space that will cause minimal disruption to library services and meets the needs of its community.

Will there be parking at the New Central Branch?

We are currently exploring parking options for the New Central Branch. Your input is valuable to us, and we encourage you to share your thoughts through our public survey: https://bit.ly/NewCentralSurvey (survey closes on Oct 12, 2024).

We appreciate everyone’s suggestions as we work to make the new branch as accessible and convenient as possible.

What are the plans for the current Central Branch building?

Since we’re still in the early stages of developing the New Central Branch, there are no definite plans for the existing building at the moment.

The Town of Oakville will initiate a comprehensive plan for the Centennial Square site in early 2025. A public consultation program will be developed and completed with recommendations for Town Council’s consideration.

What are the plans for the pool building?

We do not have details regarding the Centennial Pool building, as it falls under the Town of Oakville’s jurisdiction. The Town of Oakville will initiate a comprehensive plan for the Centennial Square site in 2025.

Will the new building be larger or smaller than the current building?

At this stage, specific details about the size of the new building and number of floors have not been finalized. However, it is anticipated that the square footage will remain approximately the same.

We are evaluating various options to ensure that the new facility will meet our community’s needs.

Will the current Central Branch facilities be affected in the transition to the new site?

Our goal is to minimize any disruptions to our services as much as possible. The operations of our current Central Branch will continue as usual.

A key benefit for moving Central Branch to a new site is the ability to maintain services throughout the construction of the new building and minimize downtime as we transition to the new space.

If any changes occur, we will communicate them to the public in advance.

Why is Downtown Oakville getting a new relocated branch, but Bronte doesn’t have a branch yet?

The decision to relocate the current Central Branch is primarily due to its aging infrastructure, which has led to considerable maintenance and accessibility challenges. Renovating the existing facility would have required a closure of at least two years, significantly disrupting essential library services for residents. The design and construction of the New Central Branch will be the first step in implementing the Downtown Cultural Hub plan to improve downtown cultural and performing arts spaces.

We remain mindful of the needs of the community, including Bronte, and will continue to explore ways to offer library services in other areas.
