Remembrance Day and Veterans’ Week
Lest we forget.
From November 5-11, Canadians are encouraged to remember and honour the sacrifice of the many who have fallen in the service of their country and acknowledge the courage of those who still serve.
How can you take part?
- Wear a poppy. Poppies are worn as the symbol of remembrance, and a reminder of the blood-red flower that still grows on the former battlefields of France and Belgium.
- Observe two minutes of silence on November 11 at 11 a.m. wherever you may be located at the time. Oakville Public Library will observe two minutes of silence as we honour all Canadian service members—past, present, and fallen.
- Attend one of Oakville’s Remembrance Day Ceremonies.
- Learn more about Indigenous Veterans Day, a day to remember and honor the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people who have served, and continue to serve, in Canada’s military.
- Join us for the Cricut for a Cause* drop-in program where you can showcase your creativity to honor our veterans. *NOTE: This program has been postponed. Please stay tuned to our programs calendar for future updates.
- Check out a library book from our Remembrance Day Readings lists: Remembrance Day, Remembrance Day - Books for Children.
- Colour the National Aboriginal Veterans Monument Activity sheet.
