January 2026

We’re making steady progress on our new branch and look forward to sharing opening details with the community once they are confirmed.

March 2025

Major construction of the Sixteen Mile community centre and library is scheduled to be completed by January 2026, with staff moving in and preparing the building for opening to the public in Q1 2026, offering the following:

  • Community centre facility rentals and drop-in programming, including fitness and aquatics

  • New registered Recreation & Culture programs will begin in the spring session, including March Break camps

June 2023

On Monday, June 19, 2023, Town Council approved budget amendments to the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex development project, which allowed the project to move into the construction phase. JR Certus has been hired and will begin putting up hoarding signs around the construction site on June 22, 2023.

The outdoor fitness circuit will be removed so the Sixteen Mile community centre and library can begin construction. New outdoor fitness equipment will be installed at the community park in fall 2024.

December 2022

Full library services have resumed at the current Sixteen Mile Branch location at the North Operations Depot facility (3250 Neyagawa Blvd, Oakville). This is a temporary location until the opening of the new Sixteen Mile Branch in 2026. Residents may also see some construction taking place this month near Sixteen Mile Sports Complex where the community park is being planned. During the winter, construction of the park fieldhouse will start, and park construction will resume in the spring of 2023. June 2022

Oakville Public Library will temporarily close the current Sixteen Mile Branch on June 4, 2022, to accommodate the start of the parks’ construction for the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex Development. The current Sixteen Mile Branch will close for approximately three months and is scheduled to reopen in mid-September at a new temporary location at the North Operations Depot facility (3250 Neyagawa Blvd, Oakville).
