To support those living with dementia in Oakville and their caregivers, OPL offers Cognitive Care Kits to borrow. There are three types of kits available focusing on early, mid and late-stage care. Each kit is designed to promote cognitive function using games, puzzles, and sensory supports. The kits aim to engage people in brain-stimulating activities while fostering social connections. Board Games
Borrow from a variety of 20 board games, ranging from simple preschool games to strategy‑focused games for teens and adults. Browse our catalogue for all available board games. Board games may be signed out for 21 days.
Book Club Kits
Looking to start a book club or needing new titles for your club’s next read? OPL has book club sets available for loan. We have selected a variety of books that are certain to generate plenty of discussion. Each kit contains 10 books and a book club discussion guide. Holds can be placed on Book Club Kits and can be borrowed for 6 weeks. Browse through currently available kits in our catalogue.
Connection Kits
OPL is now offering two types of connection kits. These kits are to help Oakville residents who are 55+ and do not have access to the internet or technology stay connected with friends and family. In addition, those with print disabilities can use the kits to access alternate formats of reading material. To learn more, please contact your local branch.
Nature Kits
Discover the world around you with OPL Nature Kits. Designed for families with children aged 4-10, these kits contain books, toys and activities selected to encourage scientific exploration and a love for nature. To borrow a Nature Kit, place a hold online for pickup at your nearest branch, or browse our catalogue for available kits.
Puzzles
We offer a curated selection of high quality jigsaw puzzles, that support relaxation, focus, visual spatial skills, and creative problem solving for puzzle enthusiasts of all ages and abilities. Choose from a collection of 20 puzzles from popular brands such as Cobble Hill, Ravensburger, and MasterPieces, covering a wide range of themes and difficulty levels, from floor puzzle to 1,000-plus piece challenges. Puzzles can be signed out for 21 days.
STEAM Activity Kits
Borrow one of our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) activity kits which promote learning and skill development through hands-on, discovery-based exploration. Borrow one of our kits to take home: Straws and Connectors, Code and Go Robot Mouse, Cubelets® Discovery Set and more. STEAM activity kits can be borrowed for seven (7) days.
Sports Kits
Get some fresh air and enjoy OPL Sports Kits. There are several types of Sports Kits offered in summer and winter! Availability varies by branch, view more information on our OPL Sports Kit page, or browse though currently available kits in our catalogue.
Storytelling Kits
Perfect for children, our Storytelling Kits include items like themed books, puppets, CDs and props to encourage play and help develop early literacy skills. To borrow a Storytelling Kit, place a hold online for pickup at your nearest branch.
