Free Event: Misinformation and Disinformation Chat

From viral hoaxes to algorithm-driven falsehoods, misinformation has rapidly become one of the greatest challenges facing our democracy. This conversation unpacks what misinformation and disinformation mean, how they spread, and why they’re so effective. 
 
Featuring media experts, Elamin Abdelmahmoud and Ron Kronstein, and moderated by Oakville Public Library CEO, Tara Wong.

Join Canada's Biggest Book Club

One eRead Canada is a digital book club connecting readers and libraries from across Canada. The selection for 2026 is What I Know About You by Éric Chacour, originally published in French as «Ce que je sais de toi» and translated by Pablo Strauss. Throughout the month of April, OPL will offer simultaneous eBook downloads of the title, available through CloudLibrary and Hoopla. Limited print copies are also available.

April is Poetry Month

Established in Canada in 1998 by the League of Canadian Poets, National Poetry Month takes place every April and brings together schools, publishers, booksellers, literary organizations, libraries, communities and poets from across the country to celebrate poetry and its vital place in Canada's culture.

Join a Family Storytime featuring poetry themes throughout April. Visit OPL in branch during the last two weeks of the month to join us in celebrating Poem in Your Pocket Day on April 23. select a poem, carry it with you, and share it with others at schools, bookstores, libraries, parks, workplaces, coffee shops, street corners, and on social media using the hashtag #PocketPoem.

Volunteer Appreciation Week

National Volunteer Appreciation Week takes place each April and this year will be celebrated from April 19-25. Each year OPL welcomes dozens of dedicated volunteers whose support helps connect the library with the community. Thank you to our largest volunteer group, the Friends of Oakville Public Library committee and the Book Sale volunteers. Their planning, organization and dedication make each sale possible. A special shoutout to this year’s Youth Library Leaders as well for their hard work and excited energy.

New Sixteen Mile Branch is Now Open

On March 31, 2026, the New Sixteen Mile Branch opened along with the expanded Sixteen Mile Sports Complex. Visit us at 3070 Neyagawa Boulevard in Oakville.

Located inside the expanded Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, the new 18,000+ square foot branch features a variety of welcoming spaces. These include a Children's Area, Discovery Zone, Community Living Room, second‑floor Mezzanine, and multiple work and study spots including the Laptop Bar and dedicated Quiet Study Room. The branch also offers a wide range of materials and resources, including a large, brand-new print and digital collection, an expanded Library of Things, public access computers, and free Wi-Fi.
