Older Adults

Are you an Older Adult living in Oakville? Oakville Public Library offers a variety of programs, resources, and services to help you learn new skills, socialize and stay active in your community.

Library Card 

With your library card, you can borrow books, movies and music, available in a variety of languages, and get access to many premium online resources. All of our branches offer public access computers with Internet access, Wi-Fi, printing, scanning and photocopying  services.

In-Person Programs 

Our adult programs inspire conversations, celebrate ideas and engage with our community. From book clubs to tech help, we hope you discover something new at the library and create lasting connections along the way. Accessible Services

The library is for everyone, especially those who have difficulties using or accessing what they’re looking for through typical means. OPL offers services to help residents of all abilities, including Delivery by Mail, Connection & Cognitive Care Kits, Magnus Cards, Reading aids and more. Centre for Equitable Library Access

OPL can help customers with a print disability by providing access to books, newspapers and magazines in formats such as audio, digital text and braille through the Centre for Equitable Library Access. To learn more, visit a branch or use our AskUs service to speak to an OPL staff member.

Connected Care Halton Ontario Health Team

Connection in Action
Project focusing on adults 55+ who are at risk or currently experiencing social isolation. Connection Specialist works one-on-one with older adults by offering information and making referrals to support a sense of belonging. Also supports community through awareness-raising and capacity-building education called LITE (Loneliness, Isolation to Empowerment) education. Health 811
Free, secure and confidential service Ontarians can access by calling, chatting online or visiting the service's website 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Through the service, Ontarians can receive health advice from qualified health professionals, such as registered nurses, locate local health services and find trusted health information. Without Walls (WOW) phone-based programs
Free and interactive telephone-based initiative safely connects Adults 55+ with others, without having to leave the house. A series of 30 to 60 minute multi-person phone conversations covering various topics. See program guide for more information.
