Display and Distribution of Community Information

Oakville Public Library (OPL) supports the sharing of community information by displaying and distributing materials that have been reviewed and approved by Information Oakville through library channels, including in-branch bulletin boards, brochure displays, and online community listings.

All materials must be reviewed and approved by Information Oakville before being shared.

What types of materials may be considered

OPL may accept materials that:

  • Are created by non-profit, charitable, public sector, or community organizations
  • Promote community, educational, cultural, health, recreational, or public interest activities
  • Address topics relevant to local community interest or need

Sharing materials through OPL does not imply endorsement.

General requirements

To be considered for display or distribution, materials must:

  • Be relevant to the Oakville community
  • Include clear and complete information, such as dates, locations, registration details, and contact information
  • Comply with all applicable laws, including the Ontario Human Rights Code
  • Be non-discriminatory and accessible to the general public
  • Be submitted early enough to allow time for review and consideration

For in-branch bulletin boards, materials must be no larger than 8½" × 11".

Approval does not guarantee display or distribution through every available channel. Information Oakville will determine the most appropriate method of sharing based on factors such as space, format, audience, timing, and operational requirements.

Materials may be shared through some channels but not others.

Public outdoor bulletin boards (Town of Oakville)

The Town of Oakville operates outdoor community bulletin boards where individuals may post materials without prior approval. The Town reserves the right to remove materials it deems unsuitable.

  • Bronte Boardwalk
  • Kerr St. at Normandy Place
  • Central Library (120 Navy St.)
  • Town Hall (1225 Trafalgar Rd.)
  • River Oaks Community Centre (2400 Sixth Line)
  • Glen Abbey Community Centre (1415 Third Line)
